Cryotherapy: What to Expect Before, During, & After

Ready to embrace the cold in the cryosauna?! As cryotherapy increases in popularity as a form of restoration as well as a way to treat a myriad of health concerns, the Renaissance Pilates + Wellness team is here to help you prepare for your first cryotherapy session!

What is Whole Body Cryotherapy?

Whole Body Cryotherapy is the practice of exposing the body to extremely cold temperatures for a short period of time to stimulate the body's natural response and endorphins to promote healing and wellness.

Using an open-topped cryosauna where clients are briefly enveloped by a frosty air cooled by liquid nitrogen, the cryosauna technology lowers the temperature inside the chamber between -200°F to -230°F. Treatments range anywhere from 2 to 3 minutes and your skin’s surface temperature is lowered by 30-50 degrees Fahrenheit, while your core body temperature remains unchanged.

While inside of the cryosauna your body’s blood is pulled inward to the core, triggering a peripheral vasoconstriction. In doing so, the skin signals the brain to produce positive biological responses, scanning and sending those responses to any parts of the body that may be in need of repair. After the session, as your body has a boost of oxygen, it is able to respond and repair areas of inflammation, pain, and the cold can slo trigger the nervous system to release feel- good endorphins. The entire treatment is painless and refreshing!

Preparing for Your First Cryotherapy Session

One of the best parts about cryotherapy is that it can benefit anyone, so deciding if it’s right for you is simple! Athletes looking to decrease recovery time, women going through menopausal hot flashes, individuals suffering from autoimmune diseases, and even people just looking to sleep better are a few of the numerous reasons you would want to use the cryosauna.

Another great aspect of cryotherapy is that you can simply walk in and enjoy, with little to no preparation needed. While our team does a thorough health and safety examination prior to the treatment, we encourage you to contact our office should you have any questions

Stepping into the Cryosauna

When stepping into the cryosauna for the first time, we encourage you to keep an open mind and know that your body can handle the cold temperature! Men and women are both recommended to enter the cryosauna in only their undergarments (without underwired bras). A Renaissance team member will provide you with a robe, gloves, socks, and shoes!

The Benefits & Results of Cryotherapy

As mentioned, the benefits of cryotherapy are plentiful! Some of which include:

  • Boosts metabolism and contributes to weight loss

  • Lose 600-800 calories in 3 minutes

  • Decrease pain & inflammation

  • Boost athletic performance

  • Accelerate muscle recovery time

  • Increase energy & endorphin Levels

  • Elevates mood

  • Boost immunity

  • Reduces cellulite and improves collagen production

  • Eliminates hangovers

Whole body cryotherapy has also been shown to be an effective treatment in reducing the body’s inflammation, especially for those suffering from conditions such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or scoliosis.

Users' results of course vary based on your body’s unique needs. Some people can feel results right after stepping out of the cryosauna while others need a few sessions to begin feeling the benefits. Our team is here to help determine the frequency of sessions in order to help reach your specific health needs and goals.
