February is American Heart Month, which was started in 1963 to encourage Americans to join the battle against heart disease. Through a presidential proclamation this month has been dedicated as a tribute to researchers, physicians, public health professionals, and volunteers for their efforts in preventing, treating, and raising awareness for heart disease. Detoxification

This has been a health and wellness hot button for a number of years; however, infrared therapy has taken it to a new level. By utilizing a series of 30-45 minutes sessions in the 145- degree sauna your body will heat from the inside out. This will allow your core temperature to increase, raising your sweat rate, and opening up your blood flow. All of these functions support the metabolic process of waste removal from the body. This removal of waste is known as detoxification.  Detoxification can help with weight loss and management, provide more energy, aid vital organs, and increase immunity among other benefits.

We mention that the infrared sauna will help increase your blood flow. Increasing your blood flow can help lower your blood pressure. One of the most common ailments in our society is hypertension, or high blood pressure. We’ve also all heard that high blood pressure is also known as “the silent killer” and is one of the many conditions that affect your heart health. According to a study of more than 1,600 middle-aged men in Finland, at the University of Eastern Finland, utilizing the infrared sauna four to seven times a week cut their risk of high blood pressure by nearly half!

Weight Loss

Another way to keep your heart healthy is to maintain a healthy weight.  Regular use of an infrared sauna can help your body flush fat and burn between 200-600 calories in a 30-minute session. While there are no long-term weight loss studies showing infrared saunas can help lose weight there is a small study out of Binghamton University in New York that exposed people to infrared sauna three times per week for 45 minutes. After four months those subjects lost up to 4% in body fat compared to a control group of non-sauna subjects whose body fat did not change. When your body fat is in the normal range, your heart will be healthier!
